What makes a writer who they are? What motivates people to want such a career. I am sure that hardly any of us have had the top of our head opened and stories poured in. Oh, wait, I had a dream like that once. Three months later I had four full length novels to edit. Maybe we can find out some of the genres and formats that are the most popular in writing.

What are the types of story formats out there. As far as I know there are four: eBook, Paperback, Hardback, and Audio-book. Let’s see what these are all about.

  1. eBook – a book in electronic form that can be read on a computer or handheld device rather than in print. This is one of the most convenient ways to read any kind of book. The best way is an audio-book which we will discuss later.
  2. Paperback – a book bound in stiff paper or flexible cardboard. This is what people would probably call “Old Fashioned”, but it still has it’s advantages. Let’s say you wanted to relax on the sofa or easy chair. That would be the perfect way to get engrossed in a story. A lot of people like to read just before they go to sleep which helps them get rid of stress and anxiety.
  3. Hardback – (of a book) bound in stiff covers; hardcover. The hardback copy is perfect for storing on a library shelf and is usually larger than a paperback. Also, I imagine, the hardcover is less easy to tear apart.
  4. Audio-book – an audio cassette or CD recording of a reading of a book, typically a novel. This is the absolute best way to absorb a novel. A person can listen to the story anywhere (accept when your boss catches you). It is easier to get involved with the story listening to it.

What is a genre in regards to books? a category of artistic composition, as in music or literature, characterized by similarities in form, style, or subject matter. Don’t even get me started on the different genres. There are soooooo many. I know, why don’t you leave a comment about which categories you like best (Science Fiction, Romance, Mystery, etc).
